CHAPTER IX
PAST MEMORIES
Sergeant Pedro, Colombia, has returned to the house of his friend Maldonado! He is concerned that the FARC leader did not accept his proposal to participate as a member of the guerrilla group. That would be too bad, because he will have to try to sneak in another cell. But without any other mode of contact in the region will be very difficult to get him to be part of something like this. As a result the next mission boat invisible in this region would be compromised without term then be performed. Maldonado still tries to convince Peter to give to infiltrate the terrorist group. Both are sitting in the battered old armchairs and living room:
- My friend...! Judgment has...! Make them disappear and you released here...! I say you had an urgent matter to deal elsewhere...!
- I can not, compadre! (Peter informs). It's like I told you before. I have an appointment with the past! I've been dedicating myself to this activity for some time and I need to finish what I started. I owe it to many friends, relatives and colleagues. The end result should be as planned!
- Pedro! I feel that you hide me something! Is there anything in your past that you never tell me! Anyway I know you are a good person!
- You do not need to know about my past, Maldonado! It is better for all of us that certain things remain only in the past! In this case... in my past!
- Pedro! The FARC are not a reliable group! They have an ideal, but they use violence, murders, drug sales, theft of weapons and kidnappings for them to achieve their goals! If they do not like you, it certainly will be your end!
- I am aware of all this, my friend! But I have an appointment with people who were killed! I owe it to them! (Peter states).
- The past is the past! Bury your appointments together with the dead! The death of one can not generate a penance for living! Forget it all and return to life, my friend!
- No way! I can not! I do not want, Maldonado! It would make sense for me to leave it all there! I have to keep my promise...! Just for this reason that I live...! It's just why I'm here...!
- I'm sorry for you, Peter! Violence breeds more violence! After fulfilling this promise, you will not feel better! Quite the contrary...! After you've saved my wife from his own men... she ended up dying in a few months. She was murdered by one of these wretches, whom you want to join! I did not give change! And today I live better! But if I had done as you did... I would not be here now! Some of my relatives could already be dead also in retaliation to my attitude of revenge! I have no hatred in my heart!
- My friend! I could not live the same way as you! (Peter states). My blood boils with hate! My heart cries out for revenge! My body asks for it! Nothing else matters... only... it!
- I understand you, Peter! I also felt it all! But I realized that the greatest good that I could do in memory of my wife, would stay alive and try to be happy. I can live well in this way and I do not intend to change that.
- Compadre! I know you have passed false information to the FARC. It is a form of revenge that you created! But I also know that this can bring problems in the future. They consult more than one informant in each region! One day they discover that you are not being honest with them and you will pay a high price for it!
CHAPTER IX
PAST MEMORIES
- I know my defense, my friend! (Maldonado says). I created a saying of survival and I reported it to them, "Do not provoke me and I'll get even with you."
- Deep down I know that you also want the FARC pay for what they did to his wife and the people of this region! I do not believe there is a divine justice! We have to make our own righteousness! I suspect you share my vision!
- Also I do not think God will pay for everything they have done! I believe that what you do here... right here you pay!
- Stay calm, Maldonado! One day, all that they did something wrong in this area will eventually pay the price. The ghost that broke the cartel Peruvian coming here and I think many FARC guerrillas die.
- I do not understand! If you are sure that... why are you here...? Leave this ghost just do what has to be done...! Why after all you came here, Peter...? Tell me the truth...!
- I can not tell you the truth now! One day... when this is all over... I tell you!
Maldonado looks directly into the eyes of Peter, seeking a reaction that helps you find out anything. Then the home owner makes an intriguing question:
- Tell me about your family! Have you a wife... children... parents...?
Peter tries not to show how he feels about this subject and escapes the subject:
- Another time I tell him about my family! Now I take a bath! I need it very much.
Peter gets up from the chair and within minutes is under the shower, which leverages to cry silently because of the memory of his dead son, killed by drug abuse. Separated from his wife because of that, Peter now lives alone, with only his job of infiltration of drug gangs and terrorists as his companion. A lifestyle too complicated and lonely, where the risk of getting lost or dying at the hands of the enemies is extreme! Live with who hates is a terrible thing! The sense of revenge is watered daily! The intent to kill with his own hands every dealer who is personally Pedro is contained by a sense of professionalism and make sure that very soon they will all be dead by the team of which this is part military, as had happened with the cartel in Peru previous mission.
